Penguins, redux

January 20th was a brand new day.

Forget rainbows and rare penguins seen at a distance. Give it up for walking within six feet of them in the wild.

Friggin awesome.

I saw massive albatross

more seals (so many seals)

rare Spoonbills

Sooty Oystercatchers

And in honor of Mark Roper, the elusive Kingfisher.

but most importantly, the very rare Yellow-eyed Penguin. In the wild. Up close. Plus, lots of video of chicks (oddly larger than the parents).

Lots of very windswept trees, as well.

but, again, Yellow-eyed Penguins ... up ... close ...

Man, seeing them in the wild that close was fantastic. I think I could have walked up an touched one. They didn't seem to care we were walking so close. Two were literally blocking the hiking trail and we had to walk in the long grass to get around them. The one looking over its shoulder blinking lazily was one of them. The other picture is of one of those, as well. I have so much video
